What is the purpose of this role?

To build and sustain a high performance team, delivering competitive advantage and enabling profitable growth, whilst managing the end-to-end development, delivery, technical design authority, integration requirements and lifecycle management for a selection of IT technologies and services that have a significant impact on Telstra’s business.

The IT principal  will have a good understanding of the software development life cycle, new ways of working that includes agile, devops ways of working. There is a strong focus on working directly with business stakeholders to solution directly for the customer’s needs. The role also requires a deep commitment to continuous improvement and driving long term software engineering quality.

IT Principal will develop and grow a Software Engineering capability within Telstra comprising API/UX Designers, Full Stack Developers, Test Automation Engineers, DevOps Engineers, which are resources that play into all parts of delivering a world class product for our customers.

This position offers diversity in projects, an opportunity to work in a team environment with autonomy and a high-level of responsibility.

Successful candidates will possess strong problem solving skills, a self-starter mindset with a proactive attitude towards delivery and leadership capabilities in order to provide guidance to Development Mangers and Feature Teams

Key Accountabilities

  • Drive teams to higher levels agile and continuous integration maturity.
  • Engage with business stakeholders to shape work, teams.
  • Accountability for the delivery of business outcomes.
  • Develop IT infrastructure and technology roadmaps that leverage opportunities from evolving and future technologies.
  • Manage the capacity and deployment of the infrastructure to meet IT service growth
  • Lifecycle manage a substantial and changing service infrastructure set, including definition of requirements and service infrastructure architecture.
  • Identify new revenue opportunities and drive unit cost reduction opportunities through simplification, rationalisation and smart application of new technology.
  • Manage technology vendors and substantial technology investment
  • Team management, adherence to organization principles on team structure
  • HSE Responsibility: Take reasonable care for your own safety and the safety of others, comply with and implement any reasonable Telstra HSE instruction, policy, standard, minimum requirement or procedure, and support Telstra to meet its duties under the relevant safety and environmental legislation.

Experience of managing a true software engineering team and implementing engineering processes including all of the following: agile, DevOps, Cloud, user story management, source and artefact control, design review, automated testing
